Parāoa of the South Pacific is a new three-year project which started in November 2021. This project is part of the ‘Coastal People Southern Skies’ Centre of Research Excellence, which is funding the work and supporting the research team. The team at NZ Whales and Dolphin Trust will assess how the health of the sperm whale population at Kaikōura is related to changing ocean conditions, and investigate the connectivity of sperm whales around Aotearoa and with Polynesia
